About us
Muslim Young Professionals
Muslim Young Professionals is a volunteer-run not-for-profit community organization. We create space for Muslim professionals to socialize, network, and grow.
Meet people who share your path, learn from each other, and build something together.
What we run
- The Forum: peer-led professional development. Members nominate and vote on the topics.
- The Garden: faith and practice beyond the halaqah, guided by Chaplain Ryan Carter.
- The Nook: our book club. Members nominate and vote on the next read.
- Social and community events through the year, posted in the Town Square.
- A proud sponsor of the Ottawa Muslim Speakers Club, Canada’s first Muslim-origin Toastmasters club.
Who we are
- Muslim professionals from a variety of backgrounds in a variety of fields, in our 20s, 30s and 40s, in Ottawa and Gatineau.
- Run entirely by volunteers. Anyone can join the team.
- A community organization since June 2022, and a non-profit since April 2024.
- Based in Ottawa, and open to supporting chapters in other cities and regions.
- Open to everyone. Most events are free or low cost.
Working with us
- Partner on an event: you run it and we help promote it, or we plan it together. Partner events camp as caravans just outside our town.
- Sponsor an event or a series, or offer a venue.
- Speak, lead a Forum session or run a workshop.
- Press and media: we’re happy to talk about our community.
Interested? Write to us at the Post House and tell us a little about your idea. We usually reply within a few days.
Join the team
The Guild Hall
Our team plans the events, runs the Forum, the Garden and the Nook, and keeps the town lively. Volunteers make all of it happen.
Team members commit to:
- Commit to a 6-month rolling term (you can continue or step back after each term).
- Attend team meetings (almost always online).
- Take an active part in discussions and decisions.
- Support our events, on the ground or behind the scenes, depending on your role.
- Follow our Code of Conduct and By-Laws.

House of Speech
The Ottawa Muslim Speakers Club meets here to practise public speaking and leadership, one meeting at a time. Guests are always welcome: come and listen, or take a small role when you’re ready.
